Saturday 28 March 2026: Compost Day

Monday 2 March 2026

On Saturday 28 March, it’s National Compost Day again, and this year Avalex is taking part.

To thank our residents for separating vegetable, fruit and garden waste (GFT), we are offering free compost on National Compost Day. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we are able to produce compost and biogas, and we truly appreciate that.

Separating GFT pays off

Residents of our municipalities Delft, Midden-Delfland, Leidschendam-Voorburg, Pijnacker-Nootdorp, Rijswijk and Wassenaar, can collect free compost at five locations on Saturday 28 March. Aldermen from the various municipalities will also be present to lend a hand.

Practical tips:

✅ Bring a sturdy bag or bucket to transport the compost.
✅ Come early, as supplies are limited.
✅ Do you live in a neighborhood, street or apartment building without GFT collection? You are also welcome to collect free compost.

GFT: good for the environment

A full 140-litre GFT bin produces approximately 15 to 20 kilos of compost. By collecting GFT separately, we can turn it into compost and prevent waste. In this way, we contribute together to a more sustainable environment.

Reusing organic waste has many benefits: compost stores CO₂ in the soil and prevents it from entering the atmosphere. In this way, compost contributes to healthier soil and helps reduce global warming.
